Contact

This page is for questions about the register itself. Objects go through the submission form, which asks for the things a record needs.

Offering an object? Use the submission form. It asks for the description, the history and the accounts in the order the register reads them, it takes photographs, and it answers with a receipt number. An object described in an ordinary email arrives with none of that.

Writing to the register

Write to contact@badprovenance.com. If your message follows an earlier one, quote the receipt number or the record number it concerns. The register is small, and a reply may take some time.

Corrections

If something in the Recorded block of a record is wrong, say so and quote the number at the top of that page. Say what is wrong and how you know it; a correction the register can check is made, and the record notes the date it was last changed.

Accounts in the Asserted block are treated differently. They are not edited to make them more plausible, because they record what was said rather than what the register holds to be so. If you gave an account and wish to withdraw it, that withdrawal is recorded beside it.

What the register does not do

It does not value objects, authenticate them, or give an opinion that can be used in a sale or an insurance claim. It does not rule on whether an account is true, and a number in the register is not a finding that anything happened.

It does not buy objects, and it does not take possession as a condition of entry. Most objects in the register have never been in its hands.

Privacy and removal

Requests to see, correct or delete what the register holds about you go to privacy@badprovenance.com rather than to the address above. What is collected and what is kept is set out on the privacy page.
